MOTION PLUS DESIGN X TOKYO

An abstract, fusion of classic black-and-white and a vivid, colorful touches video promoting M+D upcoming event in Tokyo.

ART DIRECTION & MOODBOARD

As previously mentioned, I’m striving for an art direction that entails a harmonious fusion of classic black-and-white with a vivid, a little more colorful route. Potentially, I’m thinking about adding touches of Baugasm style to the look, it’s going to be clear and striking but seamless, “dragging” and a little bit transparent at the same time. Additionally, the integration of 3D animation is significantly taken into account although it remains open to potential adjustments.

In my pursuit of authentically portraying the event’s unique character and the high-spirited atmosphere of Tokyo, it is highly suggested to incline towards an abstract design approach, predominantly centered around the utilization of fundamental geometric forms/primitive shapes. But it is important to underscore that these concepts are still in their preliminary stages and may undergo further refinement or adjustment like being opted out or so as I work to crystalize my vision.

After a brief look at their website, it's clear that they've adopted a modern and elegant design primarily featuring black and white hues, accompanied by a strong serif font. This simplistic and understated approach also appears to carry over to their typical event setup, which aims to convey valuable and personal insights and concepts, somewhat resembling a designer-oriented version of TEDx.

However, as I'll be doing the one held in Tokyo, a city renowned for its neon-lit streets, futuristic skyscrapers, and vibrant nightlife, I'm contemplating an approach that embraces vivid and striking colors, as well as eye-catching visual elements for the initial part of the video. For the latter section, I'm considering a shift toward a black-and-white theme, or perhaps a fusion of both styles. The overall aesthetic is expected to maintain a minimalistic, clean, and bold appearance, as these qualities have long resonated with the audience, but with subtle hints of vibrancy drawn from the neon-lit cityscape.
